| Shared note | In 1668, he was granted a large tract of land in Dtuchess Co., NY, referred to as the "Roosa Patent" and containing about one thousand five hundred (1,500) acres opposite Roundout Creek near Kingston and extending along the bank of the Hudson River Arie Roosa came from Holland with his father, Albert Heymans Roose and mother Wyntje Allard on the (Spotted Cow). His name spelled Arrie Roos is found on a reel of the names and surnames of them that have taken the oath of allegiane in this County of Ulster by order of his Excellancy, the Governor, the first day of September 1689 and also upon (a list of freeholders within the County of Ulster 1728) The freeholders for the town of Kingston Vizt. In this later list, his name is spelled Aldert Ariese Roose, Biography History New York, Vol. 1, pages 279 and 281. Vol. 3, pages 969-970. In the former list appears also the names of Abraham Du Boid, Thomas Anick, Cornelius Slect, Jan Eltin, Jan Van Vliet, Jacob Van Etten, Jan VanEtten (his son), Benjamine Provoost, Louis Du Bois, Johannes Westbroek, Jan Broorsen Dekker and Everett Pels. The New York Army List for 17090 embraces the following: Province of New York Lists of the present officers of the Militia in his Majestys Province of New York in America, commisioned by his Excellance Richard Earle of Bellmont, Captain and Governor in Chief in and over his majesty said Province and C. Vizt of the Regiment of Militia in the Counties of Ulster and Dutchess. Jacob Rutsen, Leiut. Col. of other foot Company in said Counties, Aria Rose, Capt., John Rose, Lieut. Aria Gerrutes, Ensigne. Documentary History New York, Vol. 1, pages 357-363, Second Annual Report, New York Historian, pages 419-427. In 1686, Arie Roosa, Jan Elting, Gerrit Aartsen, Hendrick Kip and Jacob Kip were granted a large tract of land in Dutchess County. This grant is called Arie Roosa Patent and it embraced about 1500 acres opposite Roundout Creek near Kingston and extending along the bank of the Hudson River. Arie Roose and Co. patent granted June 2, 1688 by Governor Dongan. This original poatent is in the possession of the family of the late William Kelly of Rhinebeck whose lands are still within the tyerritory covered by the Indian Deed to Artsen Rosa and Elting. New York Geneolory and Biography record of Vol. 12, page 29 Arie Roosa settled upon this grant and lived there his remaining life and many of his descendents are now found in Dutchess County, prosperious farmers and merchants. |
