He married Elizabeth Wilmot, daughter of John Wilmot and Ann McClelland, on February 16, 1800 in Anne Arundel County, MD. She was born on February 13, 1777 and died on July 26, 1848 at the age of 71.

| Shared note | Although the name I have for my ggggrandmother is Susannah Newton Peale, it seems highly likely that she was, in fact, Rebecca Newton's sister, who may have originally married a Peale, then remarried John Brewer V. The fact that the name includes a middle name probably indicates that this was her maiden name, and the fact that their first child was named Ann Odle Brewer, after Rebecca's mother, and the second child Joseph Nathaniel Newton Brewer, after Rebecca's father Joseph, and brother Nathaniel, reinforces this theory. I am still searching for proof. If this is so, then Sarah Ridgely was an ancestor of Joseph Nathaniel Newton Brewer on both sides.See notes on Susannah Newton Peale, wife of John Brewer V.
