Shared note

Colonel Ridgely emigrated from Devonshire to Maryland in 1659. He became an Associate Justice of Anne Arundel County in 1671. In 1698 at the age of 98 he became a member of the House of Burgesses. In the same year he was made a Lieutenant Colonel of Militia.

There is great controversy as to the identity of Sarah's mother. I have listed Elizabeth Howard here, but a case can be made for Sarah Warner. When Col. Ridgely arrived in MD, he demanded and received payment for transporting his wife Elizabeth Howard. But he and James Warner, Sarah Warner's father, jointly had a piece of land surveyed in 1661, and a family bible entry by Nicholas Ridgely, Henry's grandson, states that his father, (Henry, Jr.), born in 1669, was the son of Henry Sr. and Sarah, his wife. It is possible that some time in between Col. Ridgely's first wife died, and he remarried. It is a matter of record that the Colonel married a much younger woman, Mary Stanton Duvall about 1695, who then became either his second or third wife.
