BIOGRAPHY S.R. Durand: "There are records of the Legge and Burford families in Ringwood going back many years. In these church records I found a baptismal record of a Stephen Legge in 1756, a son of Stephen and Ann Legge. Since this Stephen Legge would have been 28 in 1784 when his first child, Mary, was baptized, it is likely that he is my ancestor. I found, too, a Stephen Legg, son of Benjamin and Jane (Arney) Legg, who was baptized in 1724; it is likely that he was Stephen Legge's father since he would have been 32 in 1756. No other Stephen Legges' names were found in the parish records of six parishes in and near Ringwood, so it is likely that the aforementioned were my ancestors. The Arney name was spelled Erney in the early church records, back in the 1600's. The Burfort name is sometimes spelled Burford or Bulfort in the church records of Ringwood."
