Edward Abbott and Sarah Jane (Schooley) Abbott], Ada, was graduated in 1896 from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, and then taught school in Denver, Colorado. She married William Colvin, another teacher. In 1899 they were both teaching school in Harvard, Nebraska, a town a few miles south of Grand Island. A few years later, when wheat ranching was so profitable, they gave up teaching and established a ranch near Binford, North Dakota, where their three daughters were born: Priscilla, Dorothea, and Jacinth.
