Shared note | David GREEN was born in Aghalough/Augalough, County Donegal, Ireland, the second known child of David GREEN and Agnes/Ann nee KERR. In 1835, he married his nextdoor neighbour's daughter Elizabeth ELLIS .... [239] David and Elizabeth had ten known children between 1836 and 1861. The two eldest children, Mary Ann and Richard, immigrated to Victoria, Australia, probably in 1860. Mary Ann married her first cousin, David LINDSAY in 1862 and they selected land at Winton. ... Subsequently Mary persuaded her parents ... and their eight children to join them. [26] The family left Co. Donegal for England, and sailed from Liverpool on the 14th October, 1863 aboard the Great Britain, and arrived in Melbourne in December 1863. David's age was stated as 50. Upon their arrival ...Their new son-in-law (and nephew) [David LINDSAY] met them in Melbourne with a wagon and transported them to Winton, where they selected their land.... [239] David GREEN selected land on the north-eastern Parish boundary overlooking the [Winton] Swamp. [26] The Benalla Standard, 24/9/1895, reporting the death of Mrs. GREEN, stated she came to the colony with her husband and family of 10 in 1860, and that Mr. GREEN went straight from Melbourne to Winton where he resided for 2 years, then selected land at North Winton. Death Registration No. 9125, father as David, mother as Agnes COCHRENE, died aged 81. [89] WINTON - DEATH. The death occurred on Tuesday of Mr D GREEN, one of the oldest and most respected residents of that district. Mr GREEN, who was a native of the North of Ireland, came to the colonies upwards of 40 years ago, and for 35 years has lived in the district, carrying on farming operations at Winton. [Wangaratta Chronicle, Saturday July 9, 1892] Headstone inscription - husband of Elizabeth, father of Elizabeth Jane WELLS, grandfather of Sarah Agnes GREEN. [47] |
