He married Nancy Abigale Johnson, daughter of Matthew Johnson and Ann Ash Dobson, in 1799. She was born in 1782 in River Philip, Cumberland Co., NS, Canada and died in 1824 in Tatamagouche, NS, Canada at the age of 42.

| Shared note | Tony Gagliani notes The Mingos came to Pennsylvania from Switzerland (so the story goes). Matthew Mingo's wife (whose name is not known) was said to have been a Native American Indian. I don't know her exact tribe, but it could be either Iroquois or Micmac. There were other Mingo families who settled in Nova Scotia directly from Montebeilard. It is said that the first John Henderson who came from Dumfrieshire, Scotland (on the English border) married a Micmac Indian woman. Their only son, John married Nancy Johnson, the daughter of Matthew and Ann (Ash) Johnson. Matthew was from Northumberland, England and Ann was from Yorkshire, England. There is a story that she was actually Lady Ann Ash, and that Matthew was her coachman with whom she eloped. |
