Shared note | BIOGRAPHY Agnes is named in the will of William de Tunstall as his wife; she received his silver basin and ewer. Her parentage is uncertain. C.H. Browning reported: "She was named co-executrix, with his wife, to the will of Thomas Sage, [a] Gentleman of Scarborough, 20 February 1496-7, and her husband William de Tunstall was a witness to the will, so it is possible that...Agnes was said Sage's daughter. [However, she] is also said to have been the child of Sir James Lawrence [# 475 in these records] of Aston, 1428-1490, by his second wife, Eleanor, daughter of Lionell, Lord Welles, 1406-1461. (See "The Miscell. Geneal. et Heral.," I., 199; but not the Dorset. Visita.) It is by this presumed match stated that this William [de Tunstall] [IT:d.s.p.:IT], else his issue would have been heirs to Agnes Lawrence's brother, Sir John [# 473], [IT:k.:IT] at Flodden, whereas, the four daughters of Sir John's uncle, Sir Robert Lawrence [# 2815], [IT:k.:IT] at Bosworth, were Sir John's heirs. See the Herald and Genealogist, VIII., 212." Facts about this person: Record Change October 25, 1999 |
