From Larry McDonald Re: the content of Mary (McKinnon) McAllar's letter I have long suspected that Felix's father Neil and Murdock McKinnon were brothers. Others have confirmed that Murdock's father was Alexander. This would extend the McKinnon line backward in time as Felix, Neil,Alexander. Alexander would have been the one who emigrated from Barra,Scotland to Grand River, PEI, Canada about 1790. Mary's letter confirms that Neil and Murdock were brothers. Other sources have indicated that Alexander McKinnon was instrumental in leading his people both in Barra and in PEI, Canada More information is at:http://www.islandregister .com/stpatricks.html Mary refers to the MacDougalds (MacDougalls) as being cousins. I haven't yet established whether the family ties were through Murdock's wife(Sarah Gillis) or a Cecily McKinnon who married a MacDougall. One of Cecily sons became a priest (Rev Archibald MacDougall) and another was named Gabriel - both facts are consistent with the content of Mary's letter. I don't know yet who Cecily McKinnon's parents were. There was also a later generation Gabriel MacDougall who became a medical doctor -but I haven't determined yet whether the Gabriel who was brother to Rev Archibald.
