Her parents with their older children had moved from Hocking County, Ohio to Viroqua in about 1854. Later they moved to a farm near Beloit, Kansas and she was married there on March 24, 1872 by Reverend Fletcher to Edward Abbott. They lived for a few years in Kansas, where their eldest daughter, Ada, was born. Before 1880 they were living in Brant, Wisconsin where their son Lee and their second daughter Fern were born.
