Durand: "Justina Belcher Ranney was born April 17, 1840 in Norfolk, St. Lawrence County, New York, two years after her parents had moved from Stockbridge, Vermont to this northernmost part of New York State. She was twelve years old when her parents moved again to establish a farm near Elkhorn, Walworth County, Wisconsin. The Ranney and Richardson families must have been friends when they both lived in Stockbridge in the 1830's, and later in Norfolk; and they must have kept up the friendship when they moved to southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois, only a few miles apart. It must have been through this family friendship that Justina Belcher Ranney met her husband, Rev. George Richardson, [possibly] at the time when he was a Methodist clergyman in the Wisconsin Conference in 1861. They were married August 25, 1862 in Elkhorn, Wisconsin."
