Shared note | History and much information comes via Ross Andrews from "The History of Gorham, Maine", by Hugh D. McLellan, 1903. Not in the Whitney extracts from the Gorham, ME, VR's for either birth or marriage. A Nathan Whitney is shown in those VR's as dying in 1804 at age 95, which could be this man if the memory of age/birthdate was off by only one year. RLWard's 6-Gen shows that he was in Gorham, Cumberland, ME, by 1763. Since his father's family was of York, and his younger siblings were all born in York, despite the source above, I will choose to identify his birth with York. GDMNH shows him as the Nathan Whitney who bought property in 1730 in Saco from William Presbury (and supposedly his brother, Stephen Presbury). This may account for him being listed as "of Biddeford" in his marriage record in the York VR's, as Biddeford is right next to Saco. Provided by: Allan Green [email protected] |
