Mary Whitney, daughter of Jonathan Whitney and Mary Blake, was born about 1795 in Of Buxton, ME. She married George W. Whitney, son of Asa Whitney and Phebe Hopkins, on March 7, 1817 in Gorham/Buxton, ME. He was born on June 14, 1792 in Gorham, Cumberland, ME and died on September 18, 1878 in Rochester, New Hampshire at the age of 86.
| Shared note | A brief note in the "Genealogical Dictionary of Maine and New Hampshire", by Noyes, Libby & David, says of an unidentified Jonathan Whitney "Saco, fort soldier, LIsts 248ab. It MAY refer to this man. Further, in "Maine Families in 1790", a Jonathan Whitney "of Buxton" is identified as the father of a Mary Whitney (see wife's name) who married George W. Whitney of Gorham (the next town over) - STRONGLY suggestive of but not proving her descent from this man.
