Shared note

Obituary reads as follows: "Caroline Priest, wife of J. D. Priest, died at her home in Wayne, Jones County, Iowa April 21, 1891. She was born in Jefferson county, New York April 1, 1831. Age of deceased, 60 years and 20 days. "She was married February 4, 1851. There were born to them eight children. Three preceded their mother to the spirit world. She wept when they were taken, they are waiting to welcome her coming. She came with her husband to Iowa in 1855, settling first in Jackson county. After a few years they removed to Jones county, where she continued to reside up to the time of her death. She was the fourth of a family of eight children, of whom only three are now living, one brother and two sisters. She was converted and joined the Methodist Church wile in Jackson county in the year 1862, since that time shje lived a consistent Christian life. Her testimony was: 'I know that my Redeemer liveth.' For a number of year she had taught the young people's BIble class in the Sabbath school at Langworthy. She was a devoted and a conscientious teacher, not teaching to entertain simply, but to instruct, to aid in the formation of Christian and moral character. The members of her class felt that she had a deep interest in their spsiritual welfare, that the word she taught was 'a light to her path and a lamp to her feet', thus emplasizing her words by a life of simple, trusting faith, and a cheerful obedience to God's law. At the revival meetings held at Burr Oak and Langworthy during the past winter her voice was heard in prayer for the salvation of the members of her class. This thought was continually with her. It seemed to possess her mind and heart. In conversation she would often say, 'Oh, that I might see all the members of my Sabbath school class brought to the Savior.' But she is gone. Her work is done and she will live in the memory of many. Her works do follow her as they must follow every one. How it must heer the heart at the last moment, when the soul is quitting its earthly home, to feel that one has done what I could to help others, And yet for more than thirty years she was makingready for the coming of the Master who should call her from labor to rest. "The neighbors and friends in large numbers followed on the banks of the beautiful river that flows peacefully by, reminding the living that time is fast carrying us to the eternity just a little further on." - J. M. Beall. source: "Nicholas Hutchins of Lynn and Groton" by Marvin Clayton Hutchins
