(Research):John Stephenson arrived in Australia in the 186Os and soon after travelled to Malmsbury seeking employment. He worked in the mines, firstly at Malmsbury, then in South Australia and later Western Australia where he worked as a Mine Manager. He was Manager of the Farmers Bank of England Mine at Coolqardie and then of the Lady Mary Mine at Norseman. With the decline of mining in Western Australia, the family returned to Victoria, farming at Drouin and Keilor. Later when the Malmsbury Alluvial Mine commenced operations, he was eppointed Mining Manager and retained that position until the Company wound up. Other mines he managed at Mairnsbury iere the Malmsbury Consolidated Mine and the Confluence Mine both situated on the outskirts of Malmsbury, Sarah Louisa was said to be a dedicated wife and surely this was proved by the amount of times the family moved. John Stephenson was a member of the Did Volounteer Rife club and was a notea marsrnan, ac took keen nterest H athetc torts. Their descenaant can be found in Victoria, South Australia and Western Austraiia
