..."DEATH OF FATHER LAWRENCE This venerable Baptist clergyman, died very suddenly on Friday last, from heart disease. He was the oldest clergyman, of that persuasion, in the Association. His funeral was attended, on Sunday at his residence, at North Paris, by a very large concourse of friends, who gathered to pay a last tribute of respect to the memory of one who was universally revered and loved...."(95) p49: "...a man of more than ordinary gifts, a great student of the Bible and a most interesting preacher...the beloved pastor of the Baptist church in Sumner for more than 25 years and was regarded as one of the noted ministers in Oxford County..."(126) p286: "...Rev. M. Lawrence, 2 years, 1859-60...was born in Wayne, and his ancestors came from Sandwich, MA...he resided many years in Sumner and elsewhere, was a faithful and devoted Christian and an able preacher...he died about twenty years ago..."(353 p60: "...[under history of North paris Church of the Oxford Baptist Assoc of ME] Rev. Manasseh Lawrence, a man of considerable experience, next moved into the community and took up the pastoral work of the church. He came from a long pastorate at East Sumner. Through his untiring and faithful services religious sentiment began to brighten. It was during his pastorate, in the Fall of 1859, that the Oxford County Assoc was held here when the people came in crowds to the meetings, so many that the church was not large enough to hold them and an overflow meeting was held in the yard. That Fall and Winter occurred a great revival and many were converted and brought to Christ, among them. Brother Lawrence was suddenly called home, and although his was a pastorate of only two years' duration, it was full of fruitfulness for the Master, and his people cherish him in their memories with deep reverence and love."..."
