Johann's obituary from the German Language Newspaper "Volks-Zeitung " published in Rock Island, IL 16 Jun 1886 states he came about fou r years ago from Germany (or about 1882) (Reference Wahe/77). From Anna's obituary published in the 15 Jun 1907 edition of the Moli ne Daily Dispatch, "She came with her husband to this County about 25 years ag o" (or about 1882) (Reference Wahe/79). When married, Johann was "of Carolinenkoog employed on the farm of Jo hann Peter Pfahlen of Lunden" while Anna was employed in Carolinenkoo g "by the farm owner Behrend Diederich Bartels (Reference Wahe/255). The 1885 Moline City directory lists John as working for Moline Pum p Co. and residing at 1118 9th Street. From the 1901 Moline City Directory Anna, widow of John was living wi th her son John and his wife Bertha at 527 19th Avenue.
