Shared note | William F. Lawrence,aged 74, retired veteran printer,died this morning at his home in Fitchburg, Mass. He was born in Boston,son of William H Lawrence and Sarah F. Whorf Lawrence,and lived in the city greater part of his life,where he worked as a printer.He was last employed by The Sentinel Printing Co.,for a period of 11 years.He retired in 1926. Prior to that he was employed as a printer by George Wright and the Browm Bag Filling Machine Co. .He was also in Business for himself for several years..Just before the turn of the century he was first employed by the Sentinel News paper of Fitchburg, Massachusetts. He was a past commander of Clark S. Simonds post,S. of U.V.of C. W., a member of Nashua tribe,I.O.R.M. and attendant at the First Universalist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs.Hattie M. Wright Lawrence, a son Elmer A. Lawrence of this city, five daughters, Mrs.Mary Whitney, Miss.Gertrude Lawrence and Mrs. Alfred A. Fales of this city, Mrs.Vera E. Crowl of New Haven Conn., and Mrs.Wilma A. Lamorey of Worcester. 12 grandchildern and two great-grandchildern, and a brother, Harry Lawrence of Columbus,Ohio. Burial will be in Forest Hill cemetery. He was a son of the late Brig-Gen William H. Lawrence, who was on the staff of Gen. Joseph Hooker during the Civil war. He was also a descendant of Becky Bates,who with her sister, played the drums behind a hill in Scituate and scared the British from making a landing there during the Revolutionary war. |
