Shared note | From Web: Larry Overmire Note: He was largely self-educated. Moved to Red Wing, MN in August of 1866. This was his honeymoon in fact. Became a school teacher in Red Wing and superintendant of the public schools at Cannon Falls, Dundas, and Owatonna. "In 1877, he moved to Minneapolis and engaged in the laundry business. He established the Hennepin Steam Laundry at 318 Hennepin Ave. In 1884, he moved to First Avenue North and fitted up on a much larger scale. Success attended his venture from the first, until now he is the owner of two large establishments in this city and one in St. Paul...He took a prominent part in the organization of the Laundrymen's National Association in 1883 (and became its president). He was a Republican politically until 1872, when he became active in the Prohibition party. He is a member of Independent Order of Foresters and Good Templars." --Marion D. Shutter, "Progressive Men of Minnesota." |
