"On the knoll adjoining Grand cove Judah Baker built a wind grist mill in 1803. This was of great importance at that day, and it served the public many years under the control of the builder, who was succeeded by his son, Peter, until just before the civil war, when it was removed to South Yarmouth by its purchaser, Freeman Crowell." [139]

"Judah Baker built a windmill to grind corn in 1791. Since there were few windmill builders at that time and since Henry Hall was the only one near Dennis, he is presumed to be the architect. The windmill was located atop a large hill enabling a view of packets landing from Boston, thus there are many Mill Hills, on Cape Cod. . . Since mills were hard to build, this one was moved to East Dennis, and then around 1865, Braddock Matthews moved it to South Yarmouth. When Joseph Baker bought the mill from Mr. Matthews, he had it moved to Main Street and Seth Baker ground corn there until 1890. Later it was moved to the House of the Seven Chimneys on River Street and used as a decoration by the David family. In 1953 the David family donated the mill to the town of Yarmouth where it now remains at it's present location in a small recreational park on the bank of the Bass River. It is the only wind-operated mill left in Yarmouth. It's architecture is rare in that conical caps are scarce in windmills. A smock windmill, such as this one, is one that has eight sides. "

"He was a soldier from Yarmouth in the revolution, sergeant in Captain Jonathan Crowell's company, on the Lexington Alarm, April 19, 1775."

"Baker, Judah, Yarmouth. Sergeant, Capt. Jonathan Crowell's co, which marched on the alarm of April 19, 1775; service, 3 days."

"Baker, Judah, Yarmouth. Private, Capt. Jonathan Crowell's co, which marched on the alarm of April 19, 1775; service, 3 days."

"Baker, Judah. Privae, Capt. John Nickerson's co., Col. Nathaniel Freeman's regt.; service, 9 days, in Sept., 1778; marched to Dartmouth and Falmouth on an alarm."

In her book about Dennis, MA, Nancy Thacher Reid states that the Judah Baker Windmill was built by a different Judah Baker, the one who lived from 1742/3-1810.

"He lived at Dennis. . . In 1790 Judah's household consisted of two males over 16 (including himself) and three females."

"In the U.S. Census of 1790, Judah Baker is listed as head of a family at Yarmouth, Mass., consisting of two males over 16, and three females."
