William was born in Gundagai around 1864 NSW. He was the first to take a bullock wagon and t eam across the first wooden bridge across the Murray at Mulwala.. It was a gala time in th e little towns when the wheat harvest from NSW was bought down to the Murray on wagons to b e loaded on the river boats. When the wheat teams came in there was betting on the first dri ver into town and Bill bet on how much he could carry over the bridge, between Corowa and Mul wala. He had been challenged to see who could pull the largest load of wheat across the ol d wooden bridge that spanned the Murray at that time. He was also a well known Blacksmith an d bred Waler horses used by the Light Horse Cavalry in the Great War. Corowa Racing Club has photos of William and his horses. His favourite was Marvel Leap who a lways came in second.

William received a Medical Certificate of Unfitness from the Commonwealth of Australia (occup ation Barman) which rejected him from military service on 17 November 1916. His fingerprint s are on the certificate.

William died in 1912
